The Inspiration Behind My José Hood
Designed by Kirsten Nørgaar of NORgardknitters, My José Hood seamlessly fuses form and function. Whether worn as a soft, draping scarf or a protective hood, it’s both practical and beautiful. Living in a rainy city, I often skip beanies, and this piece fills that gap perfectly, offering style and warmth in one.
The Yarn and Tools I Used
For My José Hood, I chose two luxurious yarns from Isager:
- Isager Alpaca 1: An ultra-thin, two-ply yarn made from 100% alpaca. I used shade E7, requiring two 50 g balls, each with 400 meters of yarn.
- Isager Eco Baby: A sumptuous blend of 68% baby alpaca and 32% organic Pima cotton. In shade E8s, I used five balls, each 50 g with a meterage of 150 meters.
The pattern recommended 5 mm needles, but I opted for 4.5 mm Chiagoo needles to match my loose knitting style and achieve the perfect gauge.
How It’s Made
Knitting My José Hood was an exciting journey. The project is worked top-down:
- Starting Point: The top section is knit first, establishing the hood's base.
- Shaping the Hood: Stitches are picked up along the edges, and increases along the front gradually transition it into a scarf.
